Elaine Grabowski

Elaine Grabowski

Sept. 17, 1955 – Dec. 29, 2025

Elaine Grabowski, age 70, passed away on Dec. 29,

2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Elaine was born on Sept. 17, 1955, in New York City to

Matthew and Paula Grabowski. She completed high school

in New York before setting off to Vermont in pursuit of her

love of skiing. That passion ultimately led her to Aspen,
Colorado, where she met the love of her life, Gary Kulesza.

In 1978, Elaine and Gary made the journey to Alaska, with a

brief stop in Wasilla before settling “at the end of the road” in

Homer. Elaine and Gary were together for 49 years, sharing

a life full of adventure, service, and deep love.

Elaine worked in several local dining establishments before beginning a career with the Homer Volunteer Fire Department in 1981. She became the vibrant, cheerful and knowledgeable face of the department, running the fire prevention program and serving the community with dedication and warmth. Elaine proudly served for 32 years as Department Services Coordinator until her retirement on May 1, 2016. Even after retirement, her commitment to service continued as she volunteered with the department and worked at the Classic Cook shop in town.

Elaine was deeply involved in her community and supported many organizations, including local quilting groups, the Homer Food Pantry and Share the Spirit. She also quietly gave back by bringing art supplies and snacks to local schools, always looking for ways to support and encourage children.

Her hobbies reflected her love of both creativity and the outdoors. Elaine enjoyed quilting, Homer Garden Club tours, tending her garden, hiking and berry picking. She especially treasured time spent with her honorary grandchildren, Gracie, Madalyn and Emery, who brought her immense joy.

Elaine is survived by her husband, best friend, and love of her life of 49 years, Gary Kulesza; her sister, Dianne Lizotte; her brother, Joe Grabowski; and her niece, Kendra Lizotte.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Paula Grabowsk; her brother, Pete Grabowski, and nephew Travis Lizotte

A celebration of life will be held 1-4 p.m. Jan. 31, 2026, at Land’s End Resort

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elaine’s memory to the Homer Food Pantry and/or Share the Spirit.
