About 275 people attended a Stand With Minnesota rally on Sunday at WKFL Park on Pioneer Avenue in Homer. The event was held to support people in Minneapolis and elsewhere in Minnesota responding to an increase in federal immigration and border control enforcement agents.
In a new protest fashion statement echoing the pink knitted hats of the 2017 Women’s March, some protesters wore hand-knit red hats. Some hats were the Liberty hat design first popularized in the American Revolution. Others wore red “Melt the ICE” hats, a red beanie-shaped cap topped with a braided tassel based on red hats worn by Norwegians as a sign of resistance against the Nazi occupation of Norway during World War II.
