The weather might not cooperate with the theme of this year’s winter carnival — Snow Much Love — but that’s OK, said Brad Anderson, executive director of the Homer Chamber of Commerce, the organizer of the event.
Lack of snow will make it easier for the parade to move down Pioneer Avenue, and the event, now in its 72nd year, still will be lots of fun. Snow or no snow, Homer is a beautiful place to celebrate winter, he said.
The 2026 Homer Winter Carnival Celebration will be Feb. 14, with the centerpiece of the weekend being the parade that starts at noon from the Homer High School parking lot.
“It’s a great opportunity to bring the community together,” Anderson said.
It’s not too late to enter the parade or to host an event or volunteer to help with traffic. Those wanting to participate are asked to call the chamber at 907-235-7740.
Anderson reminds everyone that participation is free. The parade is open to businesses, civic groups, nonprofit organizations and individuals of all ages. Participants don’t have to create a float to be in the parade. They can stroll, ride a bike or a horse, walk a dog — the possibilities are practically endless. The purpose is to have fun with other community members, said Anderson.
Float participants are asked to arrive at the high school parking lot at 11 a.m.
