The Homer Legislative Information Office (LIO) at 270 W. Pioneer Ave. is open to help you communicate with, learn about, participate in and track matters facing your state legislature.  The office is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, but this Thursday the LIO is open 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In addition to providing legislative information, the LIO assists the public in navigating matters of state government.  They are a distribution site for Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend applications, verifying passports and birth certificates for the division, and can answer questions regarding the application process.

MEETING HIGHLIGHT:  The Senate Finance committee will take public testimony on the budget (SB213, SB215, and SB214) from our area Friday, Feb. 27, starting at 1:30 p.m.  There is a 2-minute time limit.  Come to the office to testify, or call us to learn how  to participate from home. You can also send written testimony to finance.committee@akleg.gov

LEGISLATIVE TIDBIT:  A fiscal year begins July 1 and ends June 30.  State law requires the Mental Health Operating and Capital Budget be considered independent of all other appropriations.
