Kodiak Island hosted the Alaska Age Group Championships from Feb.12-14. We had 12 qualifiers and nine in attendance. Each swimmer raced against the fastest swimmers in the state in their age group. This event was for swimmers 14 and under. The groups assigned were 10 and unders, 11, 12, 13, and 14. 

Swimmers arrived at the pool between 7:15 and 8:15 a.m. and warmed up for almost an hour, then raced multiple events up until around 1 p.m. Then the top six swimmers for each race returned at 4 p.m. and repeated the process all over again. As you can imagine this was a grueling schedule, and I am so proud to say all of our swimmers put in their best effort every day. Out of 16 teams that scored, our team placed seventh. That is the highest ranking we have received at this meet that I can remember. 

Even more exciting, we were ranked third in Best Time Percentages, with 83% of our swims being best times. This is only possible because of the efforts of all of our team members working together- parents, coaches and swimmers. Our swimmers really impressed me with their ability to show up for each other and compete fiercely regardless of nerves, illness, non-ideal sleep, etc. I am looking forward to the 2027 Alaska Age Group Championships in Anchorage.
