In celebration of Local News Day on April 9, Homer Independent Press holds “HIP Check,” an opportunity to meet some of the people behind the paper. The event runs 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bagel Shop.

According to its website, Local News Day is “a national day of action connecting communities with trusted local news. Its mission is simple: reconnect people to trusted local outlets, empower newsrooms to grow and spark a national movement that sustains local news for generations.”
