Staff report

As part of national, state and local Pride Month and Juneteenth celebrations, Homer Pride holds a scaled-back Liberation Celebration combining Juneteenth and Pride events. The annual Community Walk starts at noon June 13 at WKFL Park and ends at Grace Ridge Brewery — a new route for this year. A gathering will be held at the brewery until 3 p.m.

Other events include Queerioke at the Alibi, Black Music Trivia at the Homer Brewery and a special showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Porcupine Theater, a fundraiser for Homer Pride.

According to a press release from Homer Pride, a larger event couldn’t be held this year “due to current capacity challenges and the significant time, energy and coordination required to organize a large-scale event. … Historically, the Liberation Celebration (Juneteenth x Pride) has served as the culmination of the Community Walk, featuring vendors, performances, educational outreach and community-centered spaces rooted in collective liberation.

“Homer Pride extends deep gratitude to the community and allied organizations for their continued support,” according to the press release. “Community support is essential to sustaining Homer Pride’s year-round operations, including expenses such as insurance, storage and website maintenance.”

Homer Pride is holding a donation drive on Zeffy and merchandise sales to help continue its work. Merchandise sales are ongoing at Sustainable Wares. Donations also can be made at the Homer Pride booth at the Solstice Celebration on June 20.
