June 17

At 9:48 a.m, Alaska State Troopers went to a report of a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle that had gone off the road and overturned near Mile 21 East End Road near Voznesenka. Iosif Marushev, 33, was declared dead at the scene. A second man in the ATV suffered serious injuries and was taken to South Peninsula Hospital. Troopers said neither man wore seatblets. Next of kin was notified. The circumstances are under investigation.

Homer Police

June 16

At 2:25 a.m., officers responded to the 5000 block of Kachemak Drive for a driving under the influence call. As a result, a 35-year-old Everett, Washington man was arrested and booked into the Homer Jail for DUI.

At 2:32 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of E. Fairview Avenue for a Civil Issue call. The incident was documented and the reporting party was advised of their options.

At 7:56 p.m., officers responded to the 90 block of Sterling Highway for a Disturbance Call. As a result, a 54-year-old Soldotna man was arrested and booked into the Homer Jail for Disorderly Conduct.

At 8:06 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of W. Fairview Avenue for a Disorderly Conduct call. Upon officer arrival, no criminal action was found.

At 9:24 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Ohlson Lane for a motor vehicle collision call. Due to the minimal level of damage, both parties exchanged information.

At 10:18 p.m., officers responded to the area of Sterling Highway and Mt. Augustine Drive on an Assist Agency call. HPD assisted Alaska State Troopers while they conducted a traffic stop.

June 17

At 2:49 a.m., officers responded to the area of Alder Lane and East End Road for a DUI call. As a result, a 29-year-old Garden City, Michigan woman was arrested and booked into the Homer Jail for DUI.

At 8:55 a.m., officers responded to the area of Crossman Ridge Road for an Abandoned Vehicle call. The vehicle was processed for towing.

At 10:31 a.m., officers responded to the 4000 block of Bartlett Street for an Assist Agency call. HPD assisted AST with their investigation into a fatality accident that occurred outside the city limits.

At 11:50 a.m., officers responded to the 3800 block of Lake Street for a Theft call. As a result, the person contacted was not arrested and issued a 1 year trespass at the request of the property owner.

At 2:06 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Crestwood Circle for a Welfare Check call. officers checked on the person requested.

At 7:33 p.m., officers responded to the area of East Hill and Larkspur Court for an Assist Agency call. HPD provided traffic control for the Homer Volunteer Fire Department while they were on a call that was partially in the roadway.

June 18

At 10:13 a.m., officers responded to the 2100 block of Homer Spit Road for a motor vehicle collision call. A vehicle was reported over the side of the roadway, upside down. The vehicle was towed from its location and the owner was contacted, after the fact. No passengers and only a minor injury to the driver were reported.

At 4:52 p.m., officers responded to the 90 block of Sterling Highway for a Theft call. It was reported that a person pushed out a large cart of unpaid groceries. The person contacted claimed they were paid for but didn’t have a receipt. Under investigation.

At 5:46 p.m., officers responded to the area of Greatland Street and West Pioneer Avenue for an Assist Agency call. HPD assisted HVFD with a medical call.

At 6:22 p.m., officers responded to the 90 block of Sterling Highway for a Theft call. As a result, a 55-year-old Anchor Point man was arrested and booked into the Homer Jail for Theft 3rd and violating conditions of release.

At 7:21 p.m., HPD was advised by a citizen that while loading groceries into his vehicle in the 90 block of Sterling Highway, he had placed a pack of ribs on the handrail of his cart, and when he turned around, he saw our nation’s symbol flying off with said ribs. The reporting party wanted it known that he has no hard feelings towards the eagle, and the eagle appreciated the donation to its survival fund.

At 8:05 p.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Ocean Drive for a motor vehicle collisioin call. The incident was documented and parties were advised of their options.

At 8:29 p.m., officers responded to the area of Mile 1Homer Spit Road for a traffic call. As a result, a 50-year-old Anchorage woman was arrested and booked into the Homer Jail for a charge of Driving While License Revoked (DWLR).

At 11:16 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of Waddell for a Disturbance call. By the time officers had arrived, the complaint had been alleviated.

June 19

At 12:36 p.m., officers responded to the 3600 block of Heath Street for an Assist Agency call. HPD assisted HVFD with a medical call.

At 12:57 p.m., officers responded to the 5200 block of East Hill Road. HPD assisted HVFD with a car fire.

At 1:18 p.m., officers responded to the 3600 block of Lake Street for a Vandalism call. A business owner reported damage to their building locks and cameras.

At 5:03 p.m., officers responded to the 3600 block of Ben Walters Lane for a Lost Property call. The reporting party advised they found the property.

At 10:22 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of East Pioneer Avenue for a VCOR call. As a result, a 54-year-old Homer woman was arrested and booked into the Homer Jail for the VCOR violation.

June 20

At 12:25 a.m., officers responded to the 3800 block of Shelford Street for a Disturbance call. As a result, one of the participants in this incident was given a disorderly conduct warning.

At 5:52 a.m., officers responded to the 4300 block of Homer Spit Road for a Welfare Check call. A man was called in as sleeping in the public restroom. The man was contacted and advised of his options.

At 12:34 p.m., officers responded to the 4800 block of West Hill Road for a Trespass call. One party reported another party in their home and wanted them removed. HPD explained the options to all parties.

At 2:04 p.m., officers responded to the 3800 block of Jennifer Place for an Assist Agency call. HPD assisted HVFD with a medical call.

At 2:20 p.m., officers responded to the area of Freight Dock Road and Homer Spit Road for a Warrant call. As a result, a 29-year-old Homer man was arrested and booked into the Homer Jail for a Failure to Appear (FTA) on the original charge of driving while license suspended, no vehicle insurance.

At 3:32 p.m., officers responded to the 90 block of Sterling Highway for a Traffic call. As a result, a 56-year-old Homer man was arrested via summons for DWLS.

At 3:47 p.m., officers responded to the 4300 block of Freight Dock Road for a Civil Issue call. One party reported the other party refused to return property that was loaned. Both parties were advised of their options.

At 5:15 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of Waddell Street for a MVC. Back accident in a parking lot. Both parties ultimately exchanged information. No further police action was necessary.

At 10:01 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of W. Fairview Avenue for an Assist Agency call. HPS assisted HVFD with a medical aid call.

June 21

 At 2:40 a.m., officers responded to the 3800 block of Homer Spit Road for a domestic violence assault. As a result, a 31-year-old Wasilla woman was arrested and booked into the Homer Jail for fourth-degree assaultdomestic violence as well as Assault In The Presence of a Minor.

 At 4:17 a.m., officers responded to the 4800 block of West Hill Road for a VCOR call. As a result, a 35-year-old Anchor Point woman was arrested and booked into the Homer Jail for Violation of Conditions of Release (VCOR) & Unlawful Contact.

 At 10:10 p.m., officers responded to the area of E. Pioneer Avenue and Svedlund Street for an Assault call. A fight was reported. One of the parties was transported to SPH. The case is under investigation.

June 22

 At 9:28 a.m., HPD was advised via the Office of Children’s Services of a possible sexual assault report. The case is under investigation.

 At 12:00 p.m., a 43-year-old Homer man was arrested and booked into the Homer Jail for third-degree assault stemming from an assault complaint filed on June 21.

 At 4:05 p.m., officers responded to the 90 block of Sterling Highway for a Lost Property call. The reporting party advised that he lost his wallet while at the above location but called back later and indicated that he had found it. No further action was required.

June 23

 At 9:11 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Klondike Avenue for a Vandalism call. A window was broken out of the business.

 At 12:56 p.m., officers responded to the 3000 block of Sterling Highway for an Assault call. Two males were having a disagreement, and one assaulted the other. The incident was documented and both parties were advised of their options.

 At 1:50 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Fireweed Avenue for a Death Investigation call. An expected at home death was reported.

Criminal cases disposed

June 15

John Austin Mixon, 27, charges dismissed, second-degree burglary, four counts of second-degree theft (access device or ID document), and fourth-degree theft (less than $250 – Count 8). He pleaded guilty to fourth-degree criminal mischief (prop dam $250–$749), two counts of third-degree theft (value $250–$749), fourth-degree theft (less than $250 – Count 11), five counts of first-degree criminal trespass (on land, intend crime), and second-degree criminal trespass (upon premises).

Michael Joseph Shadley, 54, charges dismissed, third-degree assault (cause fear of injury w/ weap). He pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault (cause fear of injury).

Patti Anne Barr, 64. She pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal trespass (in a dwelling).

June 16

Edward Robert Cady, 61, charges dismissed, disorderly conduct (create hazard condition).

June 17

Jeremiah Obrien Cousins, 38. He was found guilty after trial of two counts of third-degree assault (repeat threat of death/injury) and sixth-degree disorderly conduct (create hazard condition).

Tucker Matthew Bobo, 16, charges dismissed, driving in violation of instruction permit.

June 18


Sarah Krista Kirk, 37, charges dismissed, first-degree burglary (in a dwelling), fourth-degree theft (less than $250), and attempted fourth-degree theft (less than $250). (Note: The burglary charge was dismissed for no probable cause).

Samuel Casey Miller, 37, charges dismissed, refuse to submit to chemical test. He pleaded guilty to reckless driving.
