By Tony Knowles and Fran Ulmer

Alaska has one and only one person representing our state in Congress. That person should be a person with courage, integrity and a record of service that demonstrates a commitment to serve all Alaskans. That person should be someone who has listened and heard the many concerns of Alaskans and actively worked to address them by joining with others to solve problems and improve lives. That person needs to be someone who tells the truth and is not afraid to oppose injustice, prejudice and greed. We believe that person is Matt Schultz.

As two people who have served in statewide office for many years, and as mayors before that, we have had experience solving problems by working across party lines, concentrating less on politics and more on getting things done. We have witnessed Matt doing that successfully for years.

We have seen Matt work to achieve practical solutions working with others. His humble yet compelling approach to working diligently to find common ground has expanded safe housing for the homeless and encouraged multiple organizations to work together.  Matt has spent decades serving Alaskans before ever running for office. He has stood with unions and working families, fought for justice and shown up for people in some of the hardest moments of their lives. He will prioritize the things that make Alaska’s communities healthy, strong and sustainable. It’s more than just jobs: it is access to health care, child care, quality public education, safe streets and clean water for everyone.

At a time when families are struggling to get by, health care is harder to access, and too many elected leaders are absent or sowing division, Alaska  deserves a representative who will challenge that broken system rather than benefit from it.  Alaska needs someone with courage, character and moral fiber. Matt’s integrity is not a campaign message. It is who he is: honest, authentic, compassionate and rooted in service.

We urge Alaskans who want a stronger, fairer and more hopeful future to join us in supporting Matt Schultz for Congress.
