Alaska State Troopers responded to a small plane that crashed in the Seldovia Slough about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

National Transportation Safety Board Alaska Region Chief Clint Johnson said first responders dove to the plane, which is submerged in about 13-17 feet of water, but could not reach it. Troopers have not yet confirmed how many were on board the plane or if anyone was rescued, injured or killed.

NTSB has not yet been able to identify the plane’s registration. 

Local fishing guide Clay Duda said between 1:30-1:45 p.m., he heard the U.S. Coast Guard broadcast that the plane crashed near the Seldovia Slough Bridge with two people inside. Crew on the F/V Labrador reported they discovered the plane’s location shortly after, according to Ashley Keithley, co-owner of Seldovia Fishing Adventures alongside her husband, Chris, who responded on the Labrador.

HIP could not immediately reach the Seldovia Harbor, emergency responders or administration for further information.

The Alaska Dive Search, Rescue and Recovery Team was on standby as of about 3:30 p.m. Responders are waiting for low tide at 8:37 p.m. to get a better view of the crash site.
