With only five days left in the City of Homer candidate filing period, the Homer City Council and city mayor races look to be fairly status quo.

Incumbent council members Bradley Parsons and Caroline Venuti have both filed for their seats in the Nov. 3 election. Council member Shelly Erickson is running, so far unopposed, for mayor. 

As of Wednesday evening, no other candidates have filed for the election.

Both Parsons and Venuti are running for three-year terms on the council. 

Parsons has served two years on the council. He was first appointed in 2024 after then-council member Rachel Lord was elected mayor. He then maintained his seat in the 2025 election, running for another one-year term to finish out Lord’s original council term. 

In his candidate statement, Parsons said he’s committed to “working toward the vision so many hold” for Homer’s future — a vibrant and walkable downtown, increased affordable housing and protecting the environment while confronting the realities of growth throughout southern Kenai Peninsula communities.

Venuti was first elected to the council in 2017. She wrote in her candidate statement that she looks forward to continuing work on economic growth and providing a high quality of life for Homer residents.

Homer’s candidate filing period closes 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15. To file for mayor or one of the two council seats, visit the City of Homer website.
