Suzanne Bishop, a Homer High language arts teacher, assigned a mini-biography project to her senior students. These short narratives helped strengthen student’s writing skills while also celebrating their peers. Each week, the Homer Independent Press will feature a student written Senior Profile, offering insight into the unique lives, experiences and personalities of Homer High’s Class of 2027

Maggie Guess is one of Homer High’s seniors in the 2027 graduating class. Originally from Hubbard, Oregon, Maggie moved to Homer in 2017. She’s excited to be here and her favorite thing about it is the community. She enjoys crocheting, fantasy romance novels and, someday, Maggie wants to go skydiving. 

Like many students in the school, Maggie has enjoyed learning from teachers and aides like Mr. Stineff and Mike Steen. Mr. Stineff has helped her learn more about her favorite subject, science, and Mike has “helped to bring me out of my shell.” In AP Literature, Maggie loved reading “Pride and Prejudice.” She’s read it before, and she loves the story, Austen’s writing, and, of course, the movies. 

In between listening to Jack Johnson and reading her favorite books, Maggie often babysits for family friends; she has lots of fun taking care of children! Maggie has earned a 4.0 several times through her high school career. I think she’s going to rock AP Government her senior year.
