Thank you for supporting International Day of Peace in Homer 

On Sept. 20, while celebrating the International Day of Peace at WKFL Peace Park, Veterans For Peace reinforced our mandate to build a culture of peace, exposing the true causes and costs of war and healing the wounds of war. We also gently reminded everyone that peace begins in one’s own heart first.  The Latin phrase, “Quo vadis?” means “where are you going?” It also begs a second question: Who will go with me? To answer the first question, Veterans For Peace go to work every day for peace.

The answer to the second question was provided by all of our peace-loving brothers and sisters who came forward to join us. With enormous gratitude, we thank the following peacemongers: the Coalition for a Healthy Democracy, Homer Women of Action, the Homer Methodist Civic Engagement Group, Homer Indivisible, the Floating Leaf Sangha and the Homer Friends Meeting of Quakers. We thank their spokespersons: Alex Koplin, Kathy Carssow, Marcia Kuszmaul, Adele Josepho, Joe Spaeder and Ginger Bryant.

We are also indebted to the Sultan of Sound, Wayne Aderhold, and to our impeccable music master, Doug Van Patten. We thank Cindy Mckenna, Kathy Stingley and Sunrise for their musical offerings; the wisdom and generosity of time of Paul and Tina Seaton; the artistry of Cindy Koplin. We extend this gratitude to our peace grunts who helped with the set-ups and the teardowns. A deep bow to Rei Beams for leading us in a Pledge of Peace and to her mom, Megumi, leader of the Alaska Japanese Club of Homer for their inspirational, energetic Taiko drumming.

We celebrated the 2026 International Day of Peace in a manner befitting Brother Asaiah. Thank you to all the beautiful souls dancing on this Wheel of Destiny in  our Cosmic Hamlet by the Sea. All are welcome to attend our 4 p.m. monthly meetings at the library on the last Saturday of the month.
