Homer Council on the Arts presents “Homer Rising,” a creative community collaboration, Sept. 25 and 26 at the Mariner Theater.

Thirty performing artists and ensembles come together for a unique performance highlighting the quality and diversity of Homer’s arts community. More than a variety show, Homer Rising features a curated collection of artists, each challenged to collaborate with a different art form. Musicians, dancers, circus artists, writers, filmmakers, visual artists and textile artists will reach outside of their own domains to create all new, multisensory experiences.

Hoop artists Stephanie Cortes and Kammi Matson will perform with a jazz combo formed by Karen Strid, Kara Gillas, Bill White and Scott Bartlett. Though often using pre-recorded music or full improvisation, the movement artists collaborated with musicians in crafting the arc of performance narrative between both forms.

Rich Chiappone reads an original short story informed by his time working construction in bush Alaska, paired with stunning video by Bjørn Olsen highlighting construction of a different sort.

Emily Riedel-Trokey and Madison Gilbert perform the a duet, “Belle nuit, ô nuit

d’amour,” or “barcarolle” from Jacques Offenbach’s “Tales of Hoffmann,” with Karen Strid on piano, the Cosmic Warblers male choir, original dance by Breezy Berryman and costuming by Jill Berryman.

Several acts include live visual artists, including Jenna Gerrety, Sharlene Cline with guests, and Michael Murray. Murray’s work is part of a new composition, “Petal Tones,” by Bill White.

The performance will even feature culinary art in the form of a complimentary amuse bouche provided by Fritz Creek General Store during intermission.
