Suzanne Bishop, a Homer High language arts teacher, assigned a mini-biography project to her senior students. These short narratives helped strengthen student’s writing skills while also celebrating their peers. Each week, the Homer Independent Press will feature a student written Senior Profile, offering insight into the unique lives, experiences and personalities of Homer High’s Class of 2027.
Alana Crane will be a Homer High 2027 graduate, She is a basketball player, a participant in the Homer High School band and a world traveler — she is always on the move. Alana has lived in Alaska her whole life, but lived in Homer for more than half and loves it here. She adores the diverse weather and says “it’s new weather everyday,” and in good weather she enjoys 4-wheeling adventures with friends and family.
Alana is a very well-rounded student who decided her first Advanced Placement class should be AP English Literature, and she described the process as “nerve wracking, especially because of the exam.” Through her experience, she is proof that just because something makes someone nervous, that doesn’t mean it should stop them. AP Lit was her hardest class, and sophomore year chemistry with Mrs. Lowe was her favorite because they made slime that bounced like a ball.
Alana was a participant in The World Studies program with Mr. and Mrs. Brege during the 2026 spring break. They traveled to Croatia, Slovenia and Italy.
“I loved every culture I met, and would 100% hop on a plane right now if someone had a ticket for me,” she said.
Although Alana has not yet figured out all her plans for college, she aspires to go to school for psychology and become a therapist.
