Mourners in a Second Line procession last Saturday, Jan.3, held signs honoring the four members of the Krewe of Grambrinus Social Aid and Pleasure Club who all died in December 2025.

A brave band of musicians played in bitter cold, leading about 125 members and supporters of the krewe from Homer City Hall to Khararacters Bar on Pioneer Avenue. Some twirled umbrellas while many waved white handkerchiefs, two of the traditions of a Second Line march.

“We need to do this every year,” said Debi Poore, one of the participants. “It’s really good right at the New Year. It is still in that special time.”

According to an article by the New Orleans Jean Lafitte House, Second Line parades date back to 19th century jazz funerals. Both somber and celebratory, the first line were the family of the departed while the second line were those “who joined the procession to honor the dead and celebrate their life.”

There’s another article about Tarri Thurman and Marlon Prazen here. They were both talented artists who created many works of public art.
