The Homer Legislative Information Office (LIO) at 270 W. Pioneer Ave. is open to help you communicate with, learn about, participate in and track matters facing your state legislature. The office is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. In addition to providing legislative information, the LIO assists the public in navigating matters of state government. They are a distribution site for Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend applications, verifying passports and birth certificates for the division, and can answer questions regarding the application process.
The Alaska State Legislature is bicameral, consisting of a Senate and a House. Each body operates separately from the other, but for a bill to become law, the bill must pass both bodies and be accepted by the governor.
