Staff report

The Kachemak Bay Running Club (KBRC) holds its annual Migration Run starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 10. Originally started as a part of the annual shorebird festival, the club is proud to still be a sponsor of this important community event. The 5K run is a USATF-Certified 5k, flat, point-to-point course along the Homer Spit Trail starting at the Homer Spit Fishing Lagoon. Online registration is available now through Saturday, May 9.

The registration cost for the race is $25 through May 9 for adults, though there is a $5 discount for members of the club. Registration cost for those 17 and under is $10 before May 9.  Day of race registration is from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Sunday, May 10, at the start of the race and is $30 for adults and $15 for youth. Adult members may also get a $5 discount if they sign up on race day.

The KBRC Migration Run also will be the final event for the “Girls on the Run” and the “Let Me Run” youth mentoring running programs managed by the Homer Haven House and held at West Homer Elementary . These programs will “graduate” 13 girls and 11 boys with a celebratory 5K run, going in the opposite direction of the official 5K run.

The Kachemak Bay Running Club also will host a kids and family 1-mile fun run after the main event starting at the finishing line of the Migration Run at approximately 10:45 a.m.  This will be an out-and-back youth run starting and ending at the Migration Run 5K finish line. All kid finishers of this race will receive a congratulatory ribbon.  Most of the proceeds of this event will be allocated to the Kachemak Bay Running Club’s youth fund, offering grants to benefit local youth running programs throughout the year.
