Staff report
A sentencing hearing for Kirby Calderwood will be held starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at the Homer Courthouse. Calderwood. 36, pleaded guilty in February to the murder of Anesha “Duffy” Murnane, the Homer woman who went missing in October 2019.
Due to limited space in the courtroom reserved for Murnane’s family and close friends, people are encouraged to watch a remote broadcast at the Homer United Methodist Church or via Zoom at this link.
From 5-7 p.m. that day, a community potluck and celebration of life for Murnane will be held at the Bishop’s Beach pavilion. Bring a dish to share. There will be interactive art with Homer artist Mavis Muller.
Friends and family of Murnane recently started Duffy’s Legacy Fund, a donor-advised fund to honor her love of working with young children. The fund will support local youth education programs and schools in perpetuity. Murnane’s family opened the fund with a $10,000 donation and will match donations up to $5,000 total. To raise money for the fund, a cookbook incorporating youth and community member recipes is being created with a goal of publishing and selling locally next spring. Email duffyslegacyfund@gmail.com for updates on the fund and for information on the cookbook, including how to submit you and your children’s favorite recipes. Donations to the fund can be made to Duffy’s Legacy Fund.
Information on the fund and cookbook will be updated to the Bring Duffy Home Facebook page.
