A magnitude 4.9 earthquake hit the Southern Kenai Peninsula at about 5:15 p.m. on Friday, June 26. Located 13 km south-southeast of Clam Gulch, the quake was 55 km deep. The quake initially was reported as a 5.1 quake.

According to the U.S. Geologic Survey Community Internet Intensity Map, with about 250 people responding, citizen scientists reported the quake to be light to moderate in intensity.

The quake hit as a quick, sharp jolt that shook bookshelves and rattled buildings and then rolled for about 15 seconds.
