The Kachemak Bay Birders hold their next meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters Visitor Center.
Following a short business meeting, Jim Herbert will present “South Georgia by Land and Sea,” according to an announcement from the group. South Georgia Island is rugged and beautiful. It is also home to a magnificent population of penguins, fur seals and elephant seals. The waters around it are rich in pelagic birds including several species of albatross. This presentation will focus on the wildlife on shore and on the nearby ocean encountered during a small ship expedition through the Southern Ocean. It was a remarkable trip and one that he hopes to share with you.
Jim Herbert is a local birder. He has lived on the Kenai Peninsula for 50 years and has had a long relationship with our oceans. Retired, he keeps busy with various volunteer activities locally and around the state.
All our events are cosponsored by the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. All events are free and everyone is welcome to attend. For questions, call Lani Raymond at 907-399-9477.
