Runners, walkers and strollers are invited to join the fourth annual 5K Run for Recovery next Saturday, Aug. 29.
Hosted by the Kachemak Bay Recovery Connection, the race and community celebration will take place at the Deep Water Dock on the Homer Spit.
Participants can register online in advance or on race day from 9-10:15 a.m. Run for Recovery is free to anyone who wants to join but cannot afford it — just show up!
Walkers start at 10:30 a.m. Runners start at 11 a.m. The community celebration honoring all participants will follow the race, starting at about 11:30 a.m. Awards and prizes will be given. Shamwari Marimba Band will perform live music and the Star Spangled Banner food truck will be onsite.
Ahead of local observance of International Overdose Awareness Day on Sept. 2, KBRC will provide stakes at the Run for Recovery, on which attendees may write a name or phrase to honor those lost to overdose. Further event details will be made available soon.
