Suzanne Bishop, a Homer High language arts teacher, assigned a mini-biography project to her senior students. These short narratives helped strengthen student’s writing skills while also celebrating their peers. Each week, the Homer Independent Press will feature a student written Senior Profile, offering insight into the unique lives, experiences and personalities of Homer High’s Class of 2027.

Annabelle Thrower is a senior at Homer High School. Moving from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 2025 she has lived in Homer for two years. Her father was hired to work in the Aleutian Islands. Annabelle moved to Homer by chance, randomly choosing a city due to not wanting to live on an island. She “thought the name was cute” and her mother agreed. 

        
Annabelle can be described as an exemplary community member and wonderful friend, often going on entertaining rants regarding her previous life. Annabelle excels in school and has taken numerous Advanced Placement and Honors level classes. After school she spends time at cheer practice. 

She says, “Do not be scared to put yourself out there and try new things…like sports, it helps you more than you’d think!” 

At home Annabelle crafts, does her nails and uses her Cricut smart-cutting printer. Annabelle LOVES to read. Annabelle considers “Shatter Me” by Tahereh Mafi as her favorite book series. Last year, a book that shifted Annabelle’s perspective was “Station Eleven” by Emily St. John Mandel, read by the AP Literature and Composition class. 

She explains, “I saw myself in Miranda (one of the main characters); it made me change some things I do. She was not open to new things and it ended badly for her.” 

This year has brought Annabelle many new things. She is excited and ready for her senior year at Homer High School!
