Join the Kachemak Bay Birders for a nighttime owling trip Saturday, Oct. 10.

Meet at 8 p.m. at the parking area at the far end of the Bridge Creek Reservoir in Homer. The parking area is located on Crossman Ridge Road, accessible from West Skyline Drive. The Crossman turnoff is approximately 1 mile from the West Hill Road/West Skyline Drive junction.

Gary Lyon will lead this trip; he will have a light by his car. Dress for the conditions and bring a flashlight to help navigate after dark if you wish, but attendees will not be walking any distance.

“Owling is primarily an auditory experience, we very rarely have sight of one,” Lyon said. “The potential species include Great Horned, Saw-whet and Boreal Owl. However, the potential to hear NO owls exists.”

In the event that it is too rainy or windy, this event will be rescheduled on Oct. 11.  If Kachemak Bay Birders have to postpone, a notice will be emailed to members immediately and will be posted on their website.

All trips are free and everyone is welcome to attend. This event is cosponsored by the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge.  For questions, contact Gary Lyon (907-299-2000) or Lani Raymond, (907-399-9477).
