Two important questions for Representative Vance

Sarah Vance is the District 6 representative in the Alaska Legislature. Her district includes towns from Kasilof south to the head of Kachemak Bay.

Rep. Vance has been very open and clear that she has strong convictions and that her votes in the legislature will reflect them. Sarah serves as the Alaska State Chair of the National Association of Christian Lawmakers and as a vice-chair of the National Legislative Council Leadership within the NACL. Rep Vance has been described in Alaska media as a leading Christian Nationalist.

My concern is that there are significant Christian Nationalist positions that I consider very dangerous for our country. Voting is so important! I would like Rep. Vance to make clear to the voters in her district, how she stands on the following vote related issues:

  1. A prominent Christian Nationalist leader who has a national platform strongly promotes “Household Voting.” Household voting allows for one vote per household, by the male head. Women could potentially vote only if they are head of the household (i.e., single/widowed/divorced).

  1. There is a Christian Nationalist movement to repeal women’s right to vote as guaranteed by the 19th Amendment of the Constitution, ratified in1920. This Amendment guarantees that “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.” Please note that the Constitution is the highest form of fundamental law in this country.

Rep. Vance, all of your constituents need to know your position on these two very important issues. Do you support household voting? And will you honor the spirit and the letter of the 19th Amendment? Please publicly publish your position on these issues, so we can accurately vote our convictions also.

Thank you,

Kate Finn

Community makes outdoor barbecue a great success

Recently, Paul Banks held our fifth annual Outdoor Classroom barbecue. This event is always such a highlight to begin the school year because families come together for a barbecue and students create nature art and play in the beautiful outdoor spaces around our school all in an effort to celebrate outdoor learning. Each year, we are so appreciative of the Homer Lions Club, as they donate food and enormous time and effort grilling hotdogs and hamburgers for our families. Yet again, the Lions Club delivered!

This year the Homer Chamber of Commerce also donated hamburgers and hotdogs that fed the largest turnout we have had. Our PTA is always instrumental in making this event a success, and this was certainly true this year. All in all, this event illustrates what an amazing community Homer is to raise and educate children. On behalf of our entire staff, thank you!
